Whoever you are and wherever you are on this beautiful ball we call ‘Earth' I want to connect with you and let you know that you matter to God and to me.

There is a war raging in the unseen realm for your soul - a war between the kingdom of light and the kingdom of darkness, between good and evil, between truth and error and between life and death.

In Luke 10:29 a lawyer asked Jesus, "And who is my neighbour?" In response, Jesus tells of a priest and a Levite, who seeing a man robbed and injured by thieves and left to die on the side of a road, passed him by. In contrast, a Samaritan, showed compassion and not only stopped to help him but took him to an inn to be cared for. A neighbour, according to Jesus, is one who shows mercy on those in need and does not pass them by.

More than a decade ago God inspired me to write ‘Dear Neighbour' letters. My prayer is that my words will bring hope and healing to all but especially to those who find themselves in spiritual need alongside the road of life. God has been so good to me and it is my privilege to direct your thoughts to Jesus, the lover of your soul.

You are my neighbour and I will not pass you by.

When you call yourself a Christian...

ambassadors for Christ

Dear Neighbour,

The Oscar Pistorius murder trial has highlighted the seriousness of calling yourself a Christian. At the outset of his trial, Oscar stated that he was a Christian and in that moment the world judged Christianity by his actions. I cringed in embarrassment as I considered the possible effect his words were having on the international hearers...

Dear Neighbour,

We are not the only one who uses billboards for advertising. God has His own high-definition billboard in the heavens. The Apostle Peter said these words on the day of Pentecost: And I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke; the sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon to blood, before the day of the Lord comes, the great and magnificent day (Acts 2:19-20) (The almost identical verses are also found in Joel 2:30-31 in the Old Testament). Look up, something is about to change...

Dear Neighbour,

I have had a long-standing aversion to history and refused to watch “costume” movies, so it was with trepidation that I approached studying Church History. I am ashamed to tell you that I was willing to study any other subject in its place, but to my dismay I discovered that it was a compulsory subject. Last weekend I watched the ‘Luther’ movie (wow!) and as I currently complete my first assignment, no-one is more surprised than me at my new-found passion for the subject. I was not a believer in High School and I now understand why I didn’t enjoy learning about Constantine, Charlemagne, the Middle Ages and the Reformation– it was because God was not in it for me! History seemed irrelevant, but as a believer in Jesus Christ, boring history has become His-amazing-Story revealing God’s providence in every era. Praise God, I have been converted!

Your God-given Opportunity

Dear Neighbour,

As last year came to a close, we experienced the loss of Madiba, and together with the world we faced the sad reality of the death of a loved one. I was reminded of Alexander the Great’s unusual last three requests before he died: for the best doctors to carry his coffin, for the wealth he had accumulated to be scattered along the procession to the cemetery, and for his hands to hang outside the coffin. He wanted the people to know that in the face of death not even the best doctors in the world have the power to heal; that material wealth remains on earth; and we leave this world empty-handed. The shocking news of 44-year-old Michael Schumacher’s skiing accident reminded us how life can change in a moment of time – even for those in the prime of their life. We should not allow these sobering moments to pass without reflection...
