I have a key for you today. This is no ordinary key to unlock a physical door but rather a special key that is able to unlock a spiritual door in your life.
As a child of 11 years my most precious possession was a green sheet of paper with the words of this song:
Thank you this lovely evening Lord, I thank you and every day anew,
Thank you that all my cares and troubles, I may cast on You.
Thank you for all the friends I cherish, Thank you for everyone I see.
Thank you that I can pardon e’en my greatest enemy.
Thank you for all my cares and sorrows, Thank you for each kind word and deed.
Thank you that I can firmly trust the way in which You lead.
Thank you that You have sent the Spirit, Thank you who fills with truth our minds,
Thank you for Your great goodness which embraces all mankind.
Thank you for all Your boundless mercy, Thank you it gives me trust anew.
Thank you, O Lord I thank you for the grace of thanking You.
I loved this song simply entitled, ‘Thank You’ and sang it over and over, never tiring of the words. At the time I was unaware of the power of a thankful heart. By expressing my thanks to God I effectively opened my heart and life to Him. Psalm 100:4 says: Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.
I have observed how often people who have no time for God also have unthankful hearts. Many worship creation but fail to worship the Creator. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. (Romans 1:20,21)
Before Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead – He thanked God for hearing Him. (John 11:41) With ‘a voice of thanksgiving’ Jonah cried out to God, God spoke to the fish and Jonah landed on dry land. (Jonah 2:9) Jesus ‘gave thanks’ for the loaves and fish and miraculously multitudes were fed. (Matthew 15:36) A thankful heart will not only get God’s attention but it will bring the power of God into your life. In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (1 Thessalonians 5:18) It is God’s will for you to be thankful. How we love giving gifts to thankful people – God feels the same way! Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness (Psalm 107:8) Discover for yourself the power of a thankful heart!
