Noahs_ark_2  People_alongside_ark_2

Dear Neighbour,

The name Johan Huibers may not ring a bell but he is well known in Schagen, Netherlands.  A contractor by trade, he has built an ark – a replica of Noah’s Ark of biblical fame.

Construction began in May 2005.  The uncovered deck has a petting zoo for children, the main hold has life-size models of giraffe, elephants, lions, etc. and near the keel there is a theatre used to teach the biblical truths of Genesis 6-9.  As a Christian he hopes that the ark will renew interest in Christianity in the Netherlands where church attendance has fallen dramatically in the past 50 years.  The building of a modern-day ark is hugely significant in the light of these verses:

But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.  For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.  Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left.  Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. (Matthew 24:37-42)

Today many people are living as though God does not exist.  To think that God has prompted a man to build a physical ark to get people’s attention is evidence that God wants to save mankind. No-one had ever seen rain before the flood and many mocked Noah for his faith. Only 8 people were saved from God’s judgement.  No-one has ever seen Jesus returning in the clouds but like them, we have been warned.

By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household… (Hebrews 11:7)

Jesus Christ is our ‘ARK’ against the coming judgement of God.  It matters not whether you consider yourself ‘good’ or ‘bad’ – only those IN CHRIST will be saved.  We have to meet God’s demands not our own. Today is your opportunity to secure your eternal destiny. God has made a way of escape for you. Take it and say “Jesus, be MY Saviour!"

x Libby
