Dear Neighbour,

Jan and I have adopted the American tradition of Thanksgiving but we celebrate it in South African style with less emphasis on the food and more on the opportunity it gives us with our friends to express our gratitude to God for his many blessings during the past year. So we, Your people and sheep of Your pasture, Will give You thanks forever; We will show forth Your praise to all generations (Psalm 79:13)...

There is something special about taking the time to write down your blessings on a stone, a piece of paper or whatever creative way you can think of, as well as testifying to others concerning the goodness of God. Gratitude opens the door to further blessings. Most importantly, you will be teaching your children the art of gratitude. When your children show genuine appreciation for what you do for them, then it naturally opens your heart to bless them further – God feels the same way about His children!

Thanksgiving also helps to prepare our hearts for the Christmas Season. In a single gift, God gave all that He had. Jesus Christ is God’s Christmas gift to every human being who ever lived. Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift! (2 Corinthians 9:15).

The tragedy is that some haven’t HEARD OR UNDERSTOOD the significance of the gift of Jesus, and an even greater tragedy is that many have heard year after year about Jesus Christ – but have never RECEIVED God’s gift to them personally. Let us choose to make this season a time to give thanks to God for His indescribable gift of Jesus Christ; to love God more than ourselves or pleasure; and to exchange gifts with loved one’s as a means of showing that we ourselves have been blessed by God. We have been blessed to be a blessing. If you have never received God’s gift of Jesus Christ, pray this prayer with all of your heart:

“Father God, forgive me for ignoring your gift to me. Today I want to receive Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour. Lord Jesus, thank you for coming to this earth as a human being and satisfying God’s wrath by taking my sins upon yourself and dying in my place. Remove my sins from me as far as the east is from the west, wash me clean by your blood that was shed for me, and make me righteous in God’s eyes. Thank you for making it possible for me to become a child of God. This Christmas will be different from all the rest because you have given me a new heart to love You and my fellowmen. Amen.”

Christmas Blessing x Libby & Jan
